and why do I need them?
Bathing Your Dog
Dogs should be bathed regularly to remove dirt, debris, and loose hair. The frequency of bathing will vary depending on the breed of dog and their lifestyle as well as coat type. For example, working dogs may need to be bathed more often than companion dogs. The season and activities your dog engages in is also a factor in how often your dog needs bathed. If your dog enjoys outdoor activities, you may need to bathe them more often to remove the added dirt and debris. During baths, your groomer also checks your dog for fleas and ticks.
Brushing
Brushing is an important part of grooming because it helps to remove dead hair, distribute natural oils, and prevent mats and tangles. The frequency of brushing will also vary depending on the breed of dog and their coat type. For example, dogs with long or curly coats will need to be brushed more often than dogs with short or straight coats.
Nail Trimming
Dog’s nails grow continuously, so it is important to trim them regularly to prevent them from becoming overgrown and painful. Nails can be trimmed using a pair of nail trimmers or a dremel tool. Here at Valley Grooming, we prefer the soft edges that a dremel offers, but work with your dog and use the tool that works best for them without stressing your dog out.
Ear Cleaning / Hair Removal
Dog’s ears need to be cleaned regularly to prevent ear infections. Our groomer cleans your dog's ears and checks for any signs of infection. We also pull the ear hair to prevent matting inside your dog's ears, which can lead to wax and dirt buildup, and in turn cause an infection. This service is included with bathing as well as grooming appointments.
Gland Expression
Manually expressing your dog's anal glands can help relieve discomfort that dogs experience when they are full and can prevent any infections from developing. Expressing anal glands is a smelly and sometimes messy part of grooming, so most owners prefer to have it done by their groomer.
Hair Styling
Here at Valley Grooming, the style of your dog's hair depends on the breed of dog and your personal preferences. We go above and beyond to ensure you get the type of haircut and look you are wanting.
Dental Care
Dental care is an important part of keeping your dog healthy. Valley Grooming offers an add-on service of teeth brushing to help remove tartar buildup.
Paw Lotion
Paw lotion helps moisturize the pads of your dog's feet. It helps protect them from the elements such as chemicals, ice, concrete, and other rough surfaces. It can also help treat blisters, cracks, burns, cuts, and other irritations. Some dogs also get something called Hyperkeratosis (aka: Hairy Paw). This is a health condition in which a dog produces too much keratin. There is no cure for this condition, however our paw lotion can help alleviate some of the discomfort that is associated with hyperkeratosis.

What is Dog Grooming and
Why is it Important?
Dog grooming is the process of cleaning and caring for a dog's coat, skin, and nails. It is important to groom your dog regularly to keep them healthy and comfortable. Dog grooming can also help to reduce shedding and make your dog's coat look its best.
What are the benefits of dog grooming?
There are many benefits to dog grooming, including:
- Improved health and hygiene: Regular grooming helps to remove dirt, debris, dead skin and loose hair from your dog's coat, skin, and nails. This can help to prevent skin infections, ear infections, and other health problems while at the same time, making your dog smell better.
- Reduced shedding: Healthy and shiny coats shed a lot less. No matter your dog's breed or hair length, taking them to the groomer will help improve the quality of their coat. Brushing alone helps spread the natural oils over their coat making them shinier. During the bathing process, the dead hair in the undercoat is removed, which helps those protective oils get where they need to be.
- Improved appearance: Grooming can help to make your dog's coat look its best. This includes brushing, bathing, and trimming their nails.
- Check for and treat fleas: When you bring your dog to a groomer they are able to check for fleas. If your dog has fleas, we have a natural shampoo that will help alleviate the immediate flea issue.
- Reduces ear infections: Removing all the dirt and hair buildup inside your dog's ears will help reduce the potential for ear infections. A lot of times, pet owners don't realize how much dirt and grime actually does get inside of their dogs ears.
- Trimming nails regularly will help reduce the risk of your dog developing painful conditions. Nails that are allowed to grow too long can be painful for your dog to walk on. They may even change their posture to accommodate the long nails. If left untreated, it can lead to bigger problems such as nails that grow into the pads, arthritis and bone deformities.
- Reduces matting: If your dog has medium-long fur, it is highly likely that they will develop mats at some point or another. Mats occur when the fur becomes bunched and tangled. If left untreated, these mats can grow large and pull aggressively on the skin. If these are in sensitive areas or are tight, they can give your dog a lot of discomfort. Regular brushing and grooming eliminate the chances of matts developing. In some cases, your groomer may have to trim the matts out.
